We see the fur-ture value in wool 🐑

This lone sheep in the photo represents many things—

She’s one of ~24m sheep grazing kiwi pastures, one of the kindest environments for sheep to thrive & grow the world’s best quality wool.

She contributes to ~120k tonnes of NZ wool produced annually, by dedicated growers & their working dogs.

She will raise her own lambs who will grow their own ultimate, renewable resource, shorn season after season for their health & hygiene, & our & our environment’s benefit.

She will produce a fleece that is tougher than steel, yet finer than human hair. With a complex internal structure, her wool is resilient with each fibre strengthened with ‘fibrils’ – akin to steel rods reinforcing a concrete building while maintaining flexibility. Each fibre containing a ‘helix’ shaped, keratin protein chain that coils like a spring—preventing stretching, & giving wool its flexibility, elasticity, & durability.

The scaly ‘cuticle’ on her wool’s outer most layer makes her wool water-repellent, & the ‘cortex’ inside, representing 90% of the complete fibre, owes to its waviness. This wavy crimp gives wool softness, sound absorption & temperature regulating properties.

What’s more, her wool ‘matrix’ is a quasi-environmental filter – containing proteins that attract up to 30% of weight in water, like a sponge, & expel odour-causing vapour & harmful pollutants from the air. Her wool is also fire-resistant & anti-static.

At end of life, long after those ribbons of biodegradable, soft fibres have slid from her back onto the shearing shed floor, her wool can be returned to the soil where, within a few months, it will release nutrients back into the ecosystem—much like she, herself will do when her 12 or so years of life have aged her, gracefully.

Grown from a recipe of the world’s finest sunshine, grass, water & fresh kiwi air, New Zealand wool is made by nature, in nature, & nurtured by generational farmers & their working dogs.

It’s the fibre for the future, & our next generation #zeroplastic pet care range at HERDD; every wool characteristic you’ve read above, is designed & manufactured into our HERDD bar tote—

Made in NZ, from recycled sheep’s wool—it’s a sponge in disguise & nifty tote to store your HERDD shampoo bar in between uses 🐾🧼 find it here
