Pet parents are more ingredient-savvy than ever (& rightfully so). But the truth is, many pet shampoos still rely on outdated or ‘cost-out’ formulations, filler ingredients, or harsh detergents that don’t actually serve your dog’s skin. We think it’s time for something better. For something that’s quality, but doesn’t cost 30 bux plus a bottle.
Every ingredient has a purpose
When formulating our HERDD shampoo bars, we don’t throw in ingredients simply because “that’s what usually goes into a shampoo.”
We take a less is more approach, & we only use natural plant based components.
Every component earns its place, with a clear purpose—whether it’s cleansing, hydrating, softening, or nourishing—& nothing makes the list unless it’s truly needed.
No fluff. No fillers. No synthetics. And because we believe pets deserve the same quality we expect for ourselves, our ingredients are human-grade. Here’s a peek inside our formula & why each ingredient matters:
✨ Gentle Cleansers (effective, not harsh)
We include two coconut-derived ingredients, one of which is a super-mild cleanser that creates a creamy, gentle lather, & the other is a coconut-based surfactant that lifts dirt & oils from deep within the coat & dermal layer, without stripping sensitive skin.
Together, these create a balanced clean—powerful on grime, kind on skin.
🍃 Nourishing moisturisers & conditioners
Three plant-derived butters/oils come together to deeply nourish dry or sensitive skin, smooth, hydrate & boost your pet’s healthy skin barrier. These all enhance the texture of & condition both coats & skin, as they function as lightweight skin conditioners to soften, soothe & add shine.
They are supported by Glycerin, a natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin, fighting dryness, & natural Betaine to hydrate skin cells, locking water into the dermal layers, effectively reducing irritation, & plumping up & feeding dry or tired skin.
Finally, our Guar gum ingredient adds a conditioner & detangler into the shampoo bar, that detangles & softens coats.
These “cuddlify” coats—leaving them soft, plush & touchable.
🧪 Structural & skin-friendly support ingredients
You will see some ‘acid / alcohol’ ingredients. These are essential Fatty acids (think the good kind of antioxidants) that thicken, stabilise, moisturise, & bind oils & water together for a stable, creamy formula, that lasts for ages.
🌸 Natural botanical extracts for fragrance
In all our shampoo & topical products, we use natural botanical {pet-safe} essential oils to provide a gentle, natural scent with calming skin benefits. For the colour, we employ natural pearlescence & plant-derived colourants, which don’t affect skin health.
