The HERDD.

A key part of HERDD’s ethos (in addition to Convenience, Absorbency & Eco-friendliness) is encouraging our community

We do this through:

  • Sponsorship of events and participation in community initiatives

  • Actively support The Attainable Trust, a community program for adults with special needs

  • Member offers to selected clubs, that offer discounts & fundraising initiatives

  • Stocking HERDD bedding in independent stores across NZ

  • Contributing positively to your environment and waste management services, by not adding plastic waste to a landfill near you

and,

We’ve got some HERDD brand ambassadors, aka “V.I. HERDDy’s”… 👇

to help spread the HERDD word…

V.I. HERDDy’s (well, you are all “Very Important” HERDDy’s)

But these V.I.H’s help us, help you, spread the HERDD word - ask them about HERDD bedding!

A D Pony Stud {Amy & Caitlin DeLangen}

A mother, daughter & a stud of super ponies

If you are ‘horsey’ you would have HERDD about our V.I. HERDDy duo, Amy and Caitlin DeLangen.

Amy owns and operates, with her daughter Caitlin, A D Pony Stud, a boutique pony stud farm in Tamahere, breeding 100% German Riding Ponies (aka “GRPs”). If you aren’t familiar with GRPs, they are a compact and refined pony (or small hack size), with horse-like characteristics that make them suitable as both childrens’ ponies and competitive mounts for small adults.

GRP breeding is new to NZ, and Amy is a pioneer of bringing top GRP pedigrees to NZ shores.

Amy and Caitlin have current, world class bloodlines on their farm in the form of Deveron Numbers Game (“Uno”) (pictured), a 2020 colt by European champion FS Numero Uno, and FL Dahlia (by Golden West) a 2023 GRP filly, both imported from Australia by Amy, to deepen top quality GRP lineage in NZ. Amy’s AD Cherry Pie (2021 filly by Cockney Cracker) was awarded 2024 Youngstock Champion by the NZWB Association, & in February 2024 she foaled Uno’s first baby Dizzy Rascal.

Amy successfully trained the irrepressible Hilkens Denali to Grand Prix level, then sold him to Australia where he holds his own among the horses in competition.

The A D ponies sleep and travel on HERDD bedding, as only the best will do for these pint-sized unicorns.

You can find A D Pony Stud on Facebook here.

Q&A with Amy

What is important to you in a stable bedding product? Horse friendly & low dust are super important to me.

What do you love most about HERDD bedding? Well I can’t really answer that quickly as I have more than one love…

  • I love the smell... I no longer walk into the stables & smell that awful strong ammonia smell from urine (even though I used to dig out wet spots) instead it’s a pine fresh smell with HERDD on the floor.

  • It’s so easy to muck out … HERDD bedding just falls through the fork & leaves the hay & poo to dump. This has significantly reduced my manure pile & reduces the need to top up bedding as often [vs. shavings].

  • The reduced dust is a major bonus for me…Not only is it better for my horses health but all my gear (tack room in open barn) no longer gets covered in dust)

  • HERDD bedding is soft… So soft & fluffy, it just has to be more comfortable for the horse to stand on & snooze in :)

What would you say to someone ‘on the fence’? Do it!! I don’t think you will look back, there are just too many benefits.

Franky Masfen {Dressage devotee}

V.I.HERDDy, Francesca (known to us as Franky) is passionate about her horses wellbeing; supporting them in everyway possible to ensure they can reach their potential in the Dressage arena.

Franky is a dedicated rider and horse-lover, but is also busy studying a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Property at the University of Auckland. She’s on the Dressage NZ High Performance Talent ID Squad, too. Striking the balance between study and horses is a juggle, but Franky takes it all in her stride!

Before focusing on Dressage, Franky successfully evented to 2* level on her heart-horse Kinnordy Galilee, who is the King of the barn. He ‘oversees’ the younger ones coming through, including Riverrock Falcon (bred by Riverrock Farm, who also choose HERDD bedding in their racing and sport horse stables), and Joniro.

A fun fact about Franky, is that you’ll see her in our SHOP modelling HERDD merch (and her talented brother took the photos!). Franky does a bit of modelling on the side, in all her spare time around study, horses, competing and life :)

We asked… “What does Franky love about HERDD bedding?”

I absolutely love the ease of using HERDD. It’s SO easy to muck out of boxes and the truck, making these jobs a whole lot quicker.

I also love how it’s multi-use. Perfect to get extra moisture out of the tack room and feed room as well as to use for other little creatures.

100% worth investing in HERDD - it’s practical and luxurious for the ponies to snuggle in!

Kerri Hedley {All round awesome horse girl}

Show Jumper, sand dancer & happy hacker

Our next V.I. HERDDy, Kerri, is one of those people who don’t stop. She is full of energy and takes each day in her stride - this girl does more in one day than most of us fit into 3, and is always ready to lend a hand.

Her steed, Luxe, a WB mare (pictured) who was ‘meant’ to be a straight dressage horse, now loves flying bravely around 1.10-1.15m show jumps and Training level eventing.

As Fibre Fresh Territory Manager for Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty, Kerri knows her stuff when it comes to equine nutrition and well-being.

So what components are key to a performance horses’ needs? Good nutrition, good rest, and good training. Kerri has the nutrition part sorted with Fibre Fresh’s great feeds, and she is a very talented (& brave) rider who jumps around 1.15m courses with ease…so the last element she needed some help with was bedding!

We need our beauty sleep to perform at our best, and it’s no different for our horses. Kerri is also a big user of HERDD bedding in her float - her horses always travel on HERDD, meaning her job mucking out the float at her (many & frequent) destinations is made SUPER easy, but also the horses have added grip to support joints, especially on those long journeys that bring on muscle fatigue.

If you see Kerri out and about, go say hi! She is the one with a smile on her face, and likely helping someone out.
